Moving Trans History Forward is front-page news in Victoria, BC and making waves well beyond the West Coast! It’s been a while since we last reported on LGBTQ Oral History Digital Collaboratory activities, but we have lots to share this week! Many of our team members are gathering in Victoria with folks from far and wide for the 2nd Moving Trans History Forward conference, expertly organized by Dr. Aaron Devor and the University of Victoria Transgender Archives. The conference begins with tonight’s opening ceremony, featuring Dr. Devor, world-only Chair in Transgender Studies, Dr. Valerie Kuehne, VP Academic and Provost, and Randall Garrison, MP Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke. The next 3 days are chock-full of great offerings, many of which are free and open to the public, such as art exhibits and the Founders Panel on Sunday morning. MTHF also features numerous more specialized panels on a host of topics related to trans history for conferences participants (see program schedule here!). Collaboratory members Dr. Elspeth Brown (Principal Investigator), Dr. Nicholas Matte (postdoctoral fellow), and Al Stanton-Hagan (Digital Archivist) will present a roundtable panel with Jade Pichette (CLGA Volunteer + Community Outreach Cordinator) entitled “Activating the Archives: Making Trans*/+ Histories Accessible at the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives” on Saturday afternoon from 2-3:30pm in the Michele Pujol Room of the Student Union Building. We look forward to connecting with colleagues, community, and friends over the coming days. Stay tuned for more, follow the action on twitter using #MTHF16, and if you’re in here @ MTHF, do say hello!
