CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

2-Year Postdoctoral Fellowship in Trans History/Studies and/or Queer/Trans Oral History, Toronto, CA 

AWARD OVERVIEW

The LGBTQ Oral History Digital Collaboratory at the University of Toronto, Mississauga, seeks expressions of interest for candidates interested in applying for a 2-year, Canadian, Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship. The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships, administered by CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC, are prestigious awards with a value of $70,000 CDN per year, for two years. Applicants’ research areas should be in the areas of trans history/studies and/or queer/trans oral history.  

ELIGIBILITY TO APPLY

Applicants must fulfill or have fulfilled all degree requirements for a PhD between September 15, 2019 and September 30, 2023 (inclusively), and before the start date of their award. All nationalities invited. If successful, the postdoc will be supervised by Prof. Elspeth Brown and will be part of the LGBTQ Oral History Digital Collaboratory; they will be expected to be based in Toronto during the course of the fellowship.

This is a highly competitive national competition. Each university has its own internal competition, and then there is a national adjudication. As a result, we are seeking only ‘expressions of interest,’ and will ask only one candidate to submit a full application.

  • a c.v.
  • a cover letter (or) no more than 2 pages describing current research and proposed postdoctoral research ideas.

One candidate will be asked to submit a full application, due July 22, 2022

SELECTION CRITERIA

Applications received by Banting will be evaluated based on the following selection criteria: 

  • research excellence and leadership in the research domain
  • quality of the applicant’s proposed research program
  • institutional commitment and demonstrated synergy between applicant and institutional strategic priorities
